At Tutor Doctor Northern Colorado we believe that all students can learn and be successful in school. Success using good organization and study skills is important. It is never too early for a student never too early to learn these important skills. Starting at the pre K or elementary level at Indian Peaks, Longmont Estates, or Lyons Elementary and all the way through Niwot or Mead High schools, students are bombarded with new material every day. These different curriculums– filled with tons of information and homework– can be presented to students without ever really teaching the students “how to learn”. This is the foundation for why we teach study and organizational skills as a part of our tutoring program. With the assistance of our one-on-one tutoring strategy our students will be better able to establish their priorities and create plans to achieve their goals as efficiently as possible. Wouldn’t it be great if your student could spend less time studying and still see their grades improve?
Struggling with homework can affect the entire family!
Our experience supporting students has revealed a common misconception by parents. Students may frequently get all A’s on their homework but continue to do poorly on examinations. Parents are understandably confused by this mismatch of results.
Most teachers have around 175 students to take through the curriculum. In order to adapt, some teachers “go over” the homework in class and provide full credit for any homework turned in regardless of its accuracy. It is up to the student to ask questions in class to get clarification of content that he/she doesn’t understand. Unfortunately, many students learning styles do not work well with this model. In addition, they may be reluctant to raise their hand in class, or attempt to see the teacher outside of class for help. Sometimes the student feels like they are the only one having this problem and they “just don’t get it”. Do you know your child’s learning style? What is the teacher’s “teaching style”? Are they the same? Part of the bonus to one on one learning and a consistent tutor, is that the child and tutor develop a relationship where your child is confident to say “I don’t understand this”. Imagine the growth in confidence in themselves at home and at school!! Imagine taking the stress out of homework and tests.
Tutor Doctor Northern Colorado provides the solution to the homework help problem. We ask that our students attempt their homework before we arrive at the home for tutoring. We then work with the student to answer any questions and help them understand the concepts that they may not have felt comfortable with initially. Once that is accomplished we help the student prepare for upcoming tests and also introduce concepts that will be covered in the next lectures at school. By providing comprehensive homework help focused on areas of weakness, grades improve dramatically. Tutor Doctor Northern Colorado can help! Contact us today for a free in-home consultation.
In the long run our goal is to create successful independent learners!
“I love that the tutor comes to our house. It is also nice to have Jay there to discuss any changes or concerns (not that we have ever had any). I think that the initial interview process is great because we were able to get a perfect fit for Ella. Stevie has done so much more for Ella than just academics. She has helped Ella with her organizations skills, self esteem and is truly become a very supportive mentor to Ella. She is really cares about Ella’s success in school and life.”
